Biography

I'm a part-time PhD student in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, investigating the dynamics of droplets on heterogeneous fibres.

My first degree was in Physics (BSc (Hons), Manchester, 1995), after which I qualified as a chartered accountant with Touche Ross & Co (now Deloitte), worked in corporate tax with Ernst & Young (now EY), and then mixed international taxes for a pharmaceutical contract research organisation.

I returned to study with a second BSc(Hons) in Mathematics with the Open University (1st, 2018) and followed this with their MSc in Mathematics (Distinction, 2022). My dissertation was on the subject of droplet behaviour on flexible fibres, and my PhD topic led on from that.

Outside of my study, I enjoy watercolour painting and am developing an interest in how it could be used to demonstrate concepts in fluid mechanics. I live with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS / ME) and am interested in how events such as seminars, conferences, etc can be made accessible for people who struggle with a traditional full working day.

Conference talks

I attended the British Applied Mathematics Colloquium in 2025 and 2026 and presented a contributed talk on each occasion.
