Biography

Abigail joined The Open University Faculty of Business and Law School in 2018, bringing a strong background in policing as a former Detective Sergeant with the Metropolitan Police and Hertfordshire Constabulary. Between 2018 and 2019, she was selected for a secondment from Hertfordshire Constabulary to support the development of both the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship and policing curricula. In 2020, Abigail transitioned to the Department of Policing at the Open University on a permanent basis, where she has taken on roles as Module Team Chair for the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship, the Degree Holder Entry Programmes, and the Police Constable Entry Programme. Additionally, she serves as the Qualification Lead for the Police Constable Entry Programme and as a Practice Tutor for the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship, working directly with police apprentices from North Yorkshire Police.

Previously, Abigail worked at Charles Sturt University in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia, as the Subject Coordinator for Investigations for New South Wales Police students.

Abigail holds a Master's degree in Risk, Crisis, and Disaster Management and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education within the Faculty of Wellbeing, Education, and Language Studies, focusing her research on the lived experience of learning within a police workplace.

Passionate about scholarly work related to teaching and learning, Abigail has conducted several scholarship projects with SciLab and Pan University Cross Faculty scholarship funding. Her dedication to education has led to the publication of a book chapter and presentations at both UK and international conferences. A highlight of her career was presenting at the 2024 International Society of Scholarship for Teaching and Learning conference held in Indiana, USA. Abigail is committed to facilitating collaboration among scholars across different countries, promoting the exchange of new findings and applications across national boundaries.
