Biography
I am a Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence, within the School of Languages and Applied Linguistics. I obtained my PhD from the University of London.
Prior to working at the OU, I led the AI team at the Hartree Centre in Daresbury, one of the national labs within the Science and Technology Facilities Council. Before that I was a Marie Curie Research Fellow on the Gen-Meta project, in the School of Computer Science, University of Birmingham.
I teach in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the OU. For 2025-2026, I am chair of L806 Language, Society and Artificial Intelligence.
My research spans the discipline of linguistics and the field of AI, and the overlaps between these. I am interested in how the field of AI and associated technology can help when trying to answer fundamental questions about language and communication, as well as how models of language and communication can shed light on the many challenges faced by the field of AI.
