Biography

Professional Experience

After completing my undergraduate degree in Biotechnology in Pakistan, I pursued an MSc in Genetics of Human Disease at University College London and a PhD in Genetics at University of Cambridge.

I then went on to work as an Assistant Professor and contributed to the field of genetic counseling in Pakistan. Additionally, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at University College Dublin. 

Research interests

1. Investigation of molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders

2. Population genetics of admixed human populations, such as Latin America and South Asia

3. Perceptions of genetic diseases and genetic testing among the South Asian diaspora in the UK

Impact and engagement

GRACE - The Open University

I am an active member of the GRACE project at the OU (Genetics Research Awareness via Community Engagement), an Open Societal Challenge. GRACE comprises of a team of members passionate about discussing genetics with underrepresented communities and facilitating better representation of all in research and healthcare.
