Biography

I'm a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computing and Communication (C&C). I am also an Associate Lecturer on the module “Cyber Security” TM256. I am the qualification lead for the programme, BSc (Honours) Computing with Electronic Engineering.

I have worked in education for many years, my previous job was as Deputy Head of the School of Computing in a further and higher education college. I have a B.Eng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a PhD in technology. 

Research interests

I am currently seconded as a Central Academic in the School and my research focuses on using technology to enhance accessibility in education and communication. 

My PhD looked at how to help people with visual impairment navigate difficult urban environments with the aid of machine vision.  I am currently involved in research to help children with cerebral palsy to communicate and to establish safety and security needs for people with visual impairment.

Teaching interests

In a scholarship study I am looking at levels of active engagement in online tutorials and postulating the existence of student typologies.

I am in the production team for the development of the two new Stage 1 computer modules, leading the mathematics strand for one and the assessment lead for the other.
