Mr Ben Trupia-Melluish

Professional Biography

Ben Trupia-Melluish is Associate Dean (Tuition) in the Faculty of Business and Law at The Open University. In this faculty leadership role, he provides strategic oversight of tuition, student experience, workforce planning and academic delivery across the faculty's portfolio.

Ben joined The Open University in 2017 and has held a range of academic and student experience leadership positions, including Senior Lecturer in Business and Management and Head of Student Experience in both the Business School and Law School. He has led major initiatives relating to student success, tuition models, workload planning, academic governance and organisational change.

Ben is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and holds an MBA, PGCE and BA (Hons) in International Business Management. He is a Chartered Manager Fellow (CMI) and Certified Management and Business Educator (Chartered Association of Business Schools). His professional interests centre on student success, tuition quality, academic leadership and the effective delivery of supported open and distance learning.

Research Interests

Ben's research focuses on student engagement, retention and success within supported online distance learning. His work examines the relationship between learning design, tuition, student motivation and academic outcomes, with a particular interest in how institutional practices influence continuation and progression. His scholarship informs pedagogical practice and student experience enhancement within The Open University and across the wider higher education sector.

Professional Contributions

Ben contributes to academic leadership, governance and enhancement activities across the higher education sector. He supports colleagues through Advance HE fellowship mentoring and has served in a range of leadership and quality assurance roles. His interests include tuition strategy, student experience enhancement, academic workforce development and evidence-informed educational practice.
