Biography
Professional Biography
Ben Trupia-Melluish joined The Open University in July 2017 as Lecturer and Student Experience Manager in the Business School. He was later promoted to Senior Lecturer in Business and Management and now serves as Head of Student Experience in the Business School. Ben has also held the role of Head of Student Experience in the Law School and chaired the module team for Developing Effective Work Relationships, part of the CMDA qualification.
Ben is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds an MBA, PGCE, and BA (Hons) in International Business Management. He is a Chartered Manager Fellow (CMI) and a Certified Management and Business Educator (Chartered Association of Business Schools).
Research Interests
Ben’s research focuses on the relationship between student learning and motivation, particularly how module design and interactive elements influence progression and retention. His scholarship informs pedagogical practice across The Open University and the wider higher education sector.
Teaching Interests
Ben teaches on the Business School’s Marketing in Action module and has previously delivered B100, BXY130, BXY230, and BXY330. He has contributed to MOOCs and microcredentials on FutureLearn in areas such as team leadership, customer engagement, workplace empowerment, and marketing principles. Additionally, he has supported short courses on topics including sustainable business, digital innovation, and business design.
Professional Contributions
Ben mentor’s colleagues through APPLAUD for FHEA and SFHEA recognition and recognised as a certified External Examiner (HEA) and is a member of the Higher Education Academy’s Community of Practice.
