Biography
I have a BSc in Mathematics, an MSc in Mathematics Education and a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics from the Univeristy of Bristol. I am currently completing a part-time PhD in Education, focused on the way univesity researchers work with school students.
I have worked at the Open University since 2016 as a central academic and tutor on Mathematics Education modules: Mathematical Thinking in Schools, Learning and Doing Geometry and Learning and Doing Algebra. I am also on the module team for Introducing Statistics.
I am currently the Equity Diversity and Inclusion Lead for the school of Mathematics and Statistics, and have organised events such as a careers panel for women in mathematical careers, and facilitated the production of women in mathematics videos, showcasing the work of some of my OU colleagues: Nayana Unnipillai, Vasiliki Evdoridou and Women In Maths Rachel Hilliam. I have also held the position of External Engagement Lead, organising events for schools and the public, such as the Aperiodic tiling exhibition: Aperiodic tilings online exhibition and producing interactive apps such as Code Break: Could you be a code breaker? | OpenLearn - Open University
I enjoy giving masterclasses for primary and secondary pupils through the Royal Institution and workshops at science festivals and events such as Maths Week Scotland.
My research interests include mathematics commmunication, engaged research and epistemic justice in mathematics education.
I have previously worked as a tutor for the University of Bedfordshire on their Applied Education degree, teaching mathematical problem solving and mathematics education. I have also worked as a secondary mathematics teacher in schools in Bristol, Oxford and Madrid.
