Biography

Research Interests

My scholarship interests focus on nursing education, professional formation and the relationship between policy, education and healthcare practice. I am particularly interested in how students and practitioners develop professional understanding through workplace learning, reflective practice and participation in professional communities.

Current areas of interest include bilingual healthcare practice in Wales, language-aware care, communication, person-centred practice and the implementation of healthcare policy. I am also interested in professional identity formation, professional agency and how healthcare practitioners develop the confidence and capability to influence practice, services and systems.

A further strand of scholarship explores technology-enhanced learning, simulation-based education and the use of digital approaches to support professional learning and development within healthcare education.

Teaching Interests

I teach across the R39 Nursing programme, including K210 and K326, and support students undertaking professional learning in both academic and practice settings. My professional background includes registration as a Registered Nurse (Adult), Registered Nurse (Mental Health), Registered Nurse (Learning Disabilities) and Practice Educator, and I remain registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

My teaching interests include communication and therapeutic relationships, person-centred care, reflective practice, practice learning, supervision and assessment, leadership and healthcare improvement. I am particularly interested in helping students connect evidence, policy, values and workplace experiences through critical enquiry and reflection.

I also have an ongoing interest in simulation and digital learning approaches that support professional development and clinical judgement.

Impact and Engagement

My work seeks to support nursing education and healthcare practice through collaboration with students, healthcare organisations, Health Boards and strategic partners across Wales.

Current activity includes the development of the Welsh Language Passport, an educational framework designed to support nursing students' understanding of language-aware practice within the distinctive policy and healthcare context of Wales. The project explores how students understand language choice, communication and professional responsibility within a bilingual healthcare system and aims to support more inclusive and person-centred healthcare practice.

I have contributed to educational innovation, conference presentations and publications relating to workplace learning, transcultural research, nursing education and technology-enhanced learning. Most recently, I developed the bilingual OpenLearn resource An Introduction to Digital Simulation in Healthcare, supported through the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, to widen access to simulation-based learning resources for healthcare learners and practitioners.
