Professional biography

Hello , my name is Evelyn 

I joined the Open University (OU) in 2017 as a staff tutor(nursing)in the Nation's Office after an extensive career in the National Health Service (NHS) where I devloped my practice as a nurse, health visitor, child protection nurse specialist, educator and leader .

I am a registered nurse and health visitor with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and I keep myself updated with regard to mandatory training and revalidation activities and am committed to lifelong learning and continious professional devlopment . 

I been in the Lecturer in Nursing (Adult) role from 2018 where I have lead a team of academics in module production and presentation .My authoring experience includes writing on safeguarding, health promotion , leadership in nursing practice , and quality improvement and patient safety.  

I have completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education and a Masters in Education (Teaching and Learning).I am one of the  Equality , Diversity and Inclusion Champion within HWSC and have contributed with colleagues on the schools EDI action plan .

Between January 22 and January 23 I acted as Professional Lead for Nursing in Northern Ireland where I provided academic leadership to the nursing team and led on the OU response to a statutory inquiry into issues of abuse of patients with learning disabilities and mental health needs in a large teaching hospital .

I am currently an external examiner for Anglia Ruskin University and University Suffolk for their NMC approved for Pre registration  Nursing Degree and Pre registration foundation degree in nursing associate practice.(Jan 2023-current) 

My academic interests are focused on assessment in practice (formative and summative), practice based learning , authemtic assessment , students' response to feedback and supporting student's to become self regulated learners.

My scholarship activities include :

• Small scale investigation as part of the masters study into 'how student nurses respond to formative assessment feedback' (Oct 22--Aug 23) unpublished 
• Pan University /Cross Faculty scholsrship project 'Maximising the effectiveness of the tripartite relationship in degree apprenticeships at the OU'. As co investigator my role included getting ethical approval for the study and I wrote the final report for dissemination. ( Aug 2022-Dec 2024)
• Praxis scholarship project 'An evaluation of the use of Open Studio adapted for the first level foundation module multi modal learning and peer interaction '. I contriduted to devloping the   the online  questionnaire and interviewing students  post survey and writing up the transcripts   along with engaging with others to generate the themes from the interviews. (July 2020-Dec 2021)
