Biography
Professional biography:
I am an Associate Lecturer in the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
I began my role as an AL in 2013, after leaving a manufacturing engineering role in industry and looking for a more fulfilling career. During my time as an AL I have tutored on Maths, Engineering and Computing modules as well as the Psychology and Social Sciences and Science, Technology and Maths Access modules.
Alongside tuition I have been involved in many interesting projects, including a major role as part of the Early Alert Indicators learning analytics team, where I helped to raise awareness of how learning analytics can be used to support students and help them to succeed in completing their study. Along with three other colleagues, I guided the development of a user-friendly dashboard and provided a link to the research team in KMi to help them understand the needs of the Associate Lecturer community. I have also written online quizzes for OpenLearn, supported many other research projects as part of a team and provided support to Staff Tutors.
Although I started my career in industry engineering, my interests and motivation have developed and matured a great deal since that time.

I currently teach on the following modules:
MU123 (Discovering Mathematics),
TM129 (Technologies in Practice),
T192 (Engineering: Origins, Methods, Context.),
Y033 (Science, Technology and Maths Access Module)
Y034 (Psychology and Social Sciences Access Module.)
Academic development:
I studied for my undergraduate engineering degree with the Open University and gained a postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Sciences in 2023. I have also studied many modules in STEM, Psychology and Education for professional and personal development (and also because I love studying such interesting and well written materials with the OU!)
Research interests:
I am currently searching for research opportunities and I have an interest in mental health conditions, particularly in children and young people. I am also interested in barriers and harms to women and girls and how this affects mental health, education, opportunities and life choices.
In 2024 KMi's OUAnalyse team, of which I was a member, were awarded the STEM Recognising Excellence Award for Groundbreaking Education Innovations. The OUAnalyse / Early Alert Indicators learning analytics project received a large number of awards but was decommissioned in 2025.

In 2025 I was awarded 'Highly Commended' in the School Reading Champion category for a project to improve reading for pleasure in my local primary school, including hosting a YouTube channel.
