Mr Hywel Thomas
Lecturer In Nursing, Mental Health
School of Health, Wellbeing & Social Care
Biography
I am a lecturer in mental health at The Open University for presentation modules K210 Understanding Nursing Knowledge and Theory and K327 Becoming an autonomous practitioner: Mental Health. I have a particular interest in older people's mental health topics particularly dementia and depression. I am still a qualified mental health nurse with experience caring for the older person from an inpatient hospital and community perspective. My career before entering higher education fifteen years ago included a role of education facilitator for specialist mental health services which primarily provided support and education for primary care professional staff including GPs and district nurses and developing an aide memoir to support early identification of dementia.
