Biography

Ian has over 35 years pedagogic practice in formal plus informal learning environments, but also policy/ applied research and knowledge exchanged experience in various community and public sector settings. A grounded mix of academic and practical lived experience has allowed him to make co-production, empowerment and collaborative partnership key aspects of his ongoing research interests. These are broadly concerned with youth, culture, justice, policy and practice. His previous work makes extensive use of ethnographic methods in developing qualitative insight on a wide range of policy issues connected to social inclusion, race-based discrimination and effective service intervention.

Hyperlocal Working and Violence Reduction in Walthamstow Neighbourhood: A Learning & Evaluation Study

A learning and evaluation study of Waltham Forest Council’s pilot violence reduction project in the Walthamstow neighbourhood. This learning and evaluation seeks to understand the effectiveness of the Council's hyper-local approach to youth violence prevention; specifically, concerning the Violence Reduction Unit’s (MOPAC) 2019/20 service delivery aim of, ‘putting communities and young people at the heart of tackling the issue’.
