Ian Reid Bio – January 2025
BSc MSc MBA ARCS CEng CPhys FInstP FRAS FCIM – physicist with extensive international career in hi-tech industries: European Marketing Director for US NASDAQ company; CEO of a Dutch semiconductor engineering plc; Divisional MD during IPO, and then CTO, at leading defence and security CRO QinetiQ; and CEO of a VC funded Oxford University start-up. Five years’ experience in the public sector leading Scottish Innovation Centre CENSIS, working at the academia-industry-public sector nexus. Now working in the deeptech innovation space, including as chair of VC funded medtech photonics start-up Siloton, and founding committee member of the IOP’s Quantum Business, Innovation and Growth (qBIG) group, bringing academia, industry and investors together with mutual interest in industrialisation of quantum technologies. Has worked with Innovate UK, EPSRC and DSIT, Ian is also a NED for UKCEH Enterprise and has piloted an Entrepreneur in Residence role there. Have been a mentor on the Ignite! entrepreneurial programme and an OUBS course team member and associate lecturer. Now supports the Cambridge Maxwell Centre Impulse Programme. Currently a part-time PGR in the OU Economics Department, researching hi-tech clusters and their use as a policy tool from a wider stakeholder perspective.
