From 2009 to 2012, I taught as a Professor (W1) of the Sociology of Higher Education at Mainz University (Germany). From 2012-2019, I was Research Professor of Discourse at the Centre for Applied Linguistics at Warwick (Coventry, UK).
Research interests
With a background in linguistics and sociology, I am known for work in Discourse Studies, especially French pragmatics. While my research interests centre on the discursive construction of social order, I have empirical expertise in academic, educational and political discourses across countries such as France, Germany, the UK, Spain, Brazil and Russia. I am the laureate of two ERC projects, which have resulted in comparative research on academics in Europe, their practices and careers.
Teaching interests
Theories and methods of discourse research, language teaching, pragmatics.
Impact and engagement
I have led the INTAC project which aims to facilitate academic recruitments across institutions and countries and to help academics who want to move between institutions.
External collaborations
Speaker for the Scientific Board of Institut Solidarische Moderne, a political think tank based in Germany.
International links
I am the founding president of DiscourseNet. International Association of Discourse Studies. I have initiated monthly online workshops in discourse research in English, French and Spanish/Portuguese.
