Dr Karin Shields

Professional biography

Dr. Karin Shields is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at the Open University, U.K. where she teaches Advanced Financial Accounting and Advanced Management Accounting and leads research in Gender in Accounting and Sustainability Accounting. Before joining the Open University in 2023, she held a position at Birkbeck, University of London. Dr. Shields has published on topics ranging from insider trading and earnings management to the rhetorical strategies used in lobbying international accounting standard-setters. Her recent work includes a chapter on "The Concept of Capitals" (2024) and journal articles examining the intersection of gender, insider trading, and corporate disclosure.
