Biography

Professional biography

I have enjoyed a long relationship with Open University having achieved my BA(Hons) Open in 1998 and working as an Associate Lecturer since 2005.

I am a professionally trained youth worker and have experience of working in the voluntary and statutory sectors, and further education.

I have worked in Higher Education since 2003 teaching Youth and Community Work at Bradford College and the University of Cumbria.

Having worked as a staff tutor and Associate Head of the School of Education, Childhood and Youth, I now work part time as an associate lecturer.

I am a strong advocate for student voice and EDIA.

One of my greatest joys is to coordinate the CRC Practitioner Research Award which is offered to students at the end of their study of E320 Contemporary Research with Children and Young People.

Research interests

I gained my PhD from Lancaster University researching work with young people and their families through outdoor education. I continue my commitment to participatory research with children and young people through my membership of the OU Childrens' Research Centre.

My scholarship interests include developing students as researchers, closing awarding gaps, and online tuition development.
