Biography
Professional biography
I am currently a Lecturer in Geography. I obtained my PhD from the University of Helsinki and have held positions at the University of Warwick and Goldsmiths College, University of London. I am a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and recipient of the Design Studies Award, granted by the Design Research Association. I also have extensive experience of engaging with policymakers and practitioners within and beyond the UK, including in Japan, Norway and the United States.
Research interests
Working in the field of social and cultural geography, I investigate how urban architecture and design shape everyday life, especially within marginalised communities and groups. I have applied creative and collaborative methods to explore, among other issues, the covert use of temporary installations as anti-homeless design and the possibilities for an alternative politics of accessible architecture. Please visit my ResearchGate page for further information.
Teaching interests
I am a Postgraduate Convenor for Geography and Environmental Studies. I have designed multimedia content for a range of modules on themes such as air pollution sensing and urban flooding. As a Co-Chair of D225, I have developed a ‘blended fieldwork’ approach to facilitate accessible forms of experiential learning. I am also a Centre Manager for the Joint Distance Learning Consortium's MSc in Urban and Rural Planning, which is accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute.
