Biography
Dr Mike Snowden
Lecturer in Health and Social Care (part time), Co-Chair, K318: Leading and Managing Care and Member, K102: Understanding Health and Social Care module team.
I am an experienced academic specialising in Public Health and Social Care, with a strong focus on qualitative research methodologies and the application of case study approaches. My teaching and research are driven by a commitment to social justice, equality, and inclusivity, both within educational contexts and across society.
I actively contribute to curriculum development and pedagogical innovation, ensuring that learning experiences are learner-centric, inclusive, and aligned with contemporary professional practice. My work spans multiple disciplines and sectors, reflecting a deep engagement with the challenges and opportunities of public health and social care in national and global contexts.
I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and hold visiting professorial roles at: Visiting Professor of Social Enterprise, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India; Adjunct Professor of Social Enterprise, Gandaki University, Pokhara, Nepal; Visiting Professor of Social Enterprise, Accra Technical University, Accra, Ghana

Areas of Expertise
1. Mentoring and Coaching
I have led the development of mentoring and coaching frameworks across Higher Education (HE), Further Education (FE), business, and statutory agencies. I hold the EMCC Master Practitioner credential - the highest global vocational qualification in mentoring.
2. Social Enterprise and Social Entrepreneurship
I collaborate with UK, international universities and global agencies to embed social enterprise and entrepreneurship (SEE) skills within primary, secondary and tertiary curricula. My work has shaped innovative curricular models that prepare students for socially responsible leadership and business.
3. Pedagogy
I have published extensively on learner-centric approaches, including the application of heutagogy, demonstrating its transformative impact on student engagement and professional practice.
PhD Supervision
I welcome applications from prospective PhD students interested in areas aligned with my research interests. Candidates are generally expected to have completed Research Methods training at Master’s level prior to commencing doctoral studies.
