Professional biography

Professor of Planetary and Space Sciences since April 2005. Member of the Cosmochemistry Research Group Prior to that, I was in the Department of Mineralogy at the Natural History Museum in London, where I headed the Meteorite team; I remain a Research Fellow of the Museum.

Research interests

My research interests are in the formation and evolution of the Solar System, and what we can learn about this from study of asteroids, meteorites, comets and cosmic dust, the Moon and Mars. I am most specifically interested in the role of carbon in planetary evolution, and the links between the carbon chemistry of extraterrestrial materials and the origin of life on Earth (and beyond).
