Biography

Professional biography

Rachel is a Curriculum Tutor on the Primary PGCE Programme at the Open University in Wales. Rachel undertook a BA degree in Ancient History and Philosophy, followed by a MA in The History of Philosophy before completing a PGCE to become a primary teacher. She has twenty years teaching experience and continues to currently practice alongside her Open University role which she began in September 2024.

Research interests

Rachel has completed a further MA in English Studies where she explored depictions of female education within nineteenth century literature. She is currently undertaking a Professional Doctorate in Education focussing on the enactment of subsidiarity within the Curriculum for Wales framework. Her research interests also include teacher professionalism and children’s rights.

Teaching interests

As a keen practitioner, Rachel enjoys exploring ideas relating to curriculum design and pedagogy. She co-ordinates the Humanities Area of Learning Experience within her school setting and is particularly interested in the development of ethics and citizenship as well as Philosophy for Children. As a primary Curriculum Tutor Rachel enjoys supporting the linking of educational theory to practice to assist student teachers to develop their own knowledge and effective classroom pedagogy.
