Professional Biography

I joined the Social Policy and Criminology Department in 2019.  Prior to my current role as Staff Tutor/SeniorLecturer, I was Senior Faculty Manager in Social Sciences. I worked in the Social Sciences Department, Education Studies, London Metropolitan University teaching qualitative research methods modules from undergraduate to doctoral level. I was the Course Leader of the Master in Education and the Doctorate in Education programmes, and the Postgraduate Research Lead of the School of Social Sciences and Professions.

In my early career as a Researcher, I worked at Cardiff University, Lancaster University and Sheffield University. I was also  Senior Researcher at the Learning and Skills Network (LSN) responsible for  conducting research and evaluation studies in Further and Higher Education. I was also responsible for the management of the operational requirements of key national educational programmes.

Research interests

My main research interest is related to  the pedagogy of social research methodologies, sociology of education and sociology of childhood.

Teaching interests

I am currently Deputy Chair of the module Social research: Crime, justice and society (DD215) and since January 2023, I am the Postgraduate Research Convenor of Social Policy and Criminology.  I was member of the DD215 module production team, DD212 and DD105 module presentation team, and DD105 Mid-Life Review Team. I am also an Associate Lecturer tutoring the module: Issues in research with children and young people (EK313) in the School of Education, Childhood, Youth and Sport (ECYS).

I welcome PhD students interested in conducting social policy, childhood and educational research, and contributing to the theoretical and methodological advancements in the sociology of education and sociology of childhood.

Currently supervising:

  • Exploring Black young Londoners' experiences of marginalisation: Intersections of voice, identity and critical conciousness.
  • Gifted Education and Social Justice: A qualitative case study of teachers and students experiences of Gifted and Talented interventions in an Austrian Primary School.

Previously supervised to completion:

  • The role of graduate recruitment in the employability agenda: A qualitative case study of undergraduate business education at a Russell Group University.
  • How do two-year-old construct outdoor play as part of the two-year-old offer? A multimodal ethnographic study of an inner London nursery during the global pandemic. 
  • Developing a coherent theoretical framework for Forest School in the UK.
  • Developing a systemic relationship pedagogy in social work education.
  • Becoming ‘NEET’: an exploration of marginalised young people’s trajectories and experiences.
  • Children’s lives across the Anthropocene: reconsidering the place of modern childhood in education studies through the scholarship of taking ‘a wider look around’.
