Biography
Professional biography
I hold a first-class honours degree in Diagnostic Radiography from the University of Suffolk and am a registered Diagnostic Radiographer with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I continue to practice clinically when I am able to do so alongside my role at The Open University. I recently completed a Post-graduate Certificate in Clinical Pedagogy with distinction from the University of the Highlands and Islands and am currently undertaking a Masters by Research in Health Studies.
At The Open University I serve as Lead Cluster Manager for modules K119 and K323, and Cluster Manager for K220. I also hold the position of School Academic Integrity Lead (Lead ACO) within the School of Health, Wellbeing and Social Care with responsibility for over 1000 referrals and a small team of dedicated ACO colleagues. Finally, I am a member of the School's Board of Studies.
I am actively involved in several academic groups, including the Open Nursing and Allied Health Professions Group and the Open Thanatology group. Additionally, I contribute as a Teaching Fellow at Coventry University (School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health) and serve as a Peer Reviewer for Radiography journal and the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences.
Research interests
My research is driven by a commitment to improving patient experiences and advancing educational practices in health and social care through innovative, qualitative enquiry.
Key areas of interest include:
- Patient experiences of healthcare
- Dialogic processes in clinical encounters
- Innovative applications of medical imaging in education
- Organisational responses to patient feedback
- Teaching academic writing to undergraduate students
- Death, dying and bereavement
I enjoy using qualitative research methodologies to explore the human experience of healthcare and my work informs clinical education strategies, enhances patient care and supports organisational learning through meaningful engagement with patient feedback. I welcome opportunities for research collaboration.
Teaching interests
My teaching practice is rooted in student-centred learning integrating real-world experiences into academic contexts. I have a particular interest in supporting students in Health and Social Care disciplines, with a focus on developing critical thinking and academic writing skills.
Drawing on my background in Diagnostic Radiography, I bring specialist knowledge in medical imaging (especially projection radiography) and skeletal anatomy. I am passionare about helping students understand the clinical relevance of anatomical structures, imaging techniques and I use case-based learning to bridge theory and practice.
I also explore the role of patient feedback in shaping organisational responses and healthcare delivery. I incorporate this theme into teaching to encourage students to consider the ethical and practical dimensions of service delivery.
As an Academic Conduct Officer I take a proactive and developmental approach to fostering academic integrity. I work closely with colleagues across the university to embed integrity focused learning into undergraduate curricula. My aim is to support students in understanding the ethical principles that are required in academic writing in an inclusive and supportive environment. I seek to ensure that academic integrity is not only taught but is meaningfully integrated into studies.
Across all my teaching, I aim to foster inclusive learning environments that support diverse student needs and promote academic integrity.
External collaborations
I am a trustee of the Society of Radiographers Benevolent Fund and an external examiner for Nottingham Trent University in the School of Social Sciences
