Mr Shawn Appleyard
Lecturer In Computing And Communications (Apprenticeships)
Biography
I have held a long-standing passion for computing since my school years, which only deepened after returning to education following a period in employment. Reigniting my interest in IT, I undertook studies in Networking and Cyber Security, completing my degree during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. This experience not only solidified my technical expertise but also inspired a new direction: to enter the teaching profession with the core ambition of giving back and helping others thrive in the field I love.
Since qualifying, I have taught a wide range of IT subjects across Further and Higher Education, including BTEC, T Levels, A Levels, and undergraduate degree modules. My teaching experience spans respected institutions such as Durham Sixth Form Centre and Gateshead College (during my initial teacher training placements), followed by substantive roles at Newcastle College and currently, The Open University. Across these settings, I have consistently aimed to deliver student-centred, industry-relevant learning experiences that empower learners to succeed both academically and professionally.
