Biography
Hello my name is Una.
I am a Registered Nurse (Adult) and Staff Tutor and Regional Academic, in the North of Ireland Nursing Team, in The Open University in Ireland. My professional career has spanned clinical practice, leadership, management, education, research, practice development, quality improvement, and facilitation.
My research and scholarship interests lie in the field of ethics, moral well-being, and person centredness, specifically moral distress and the moral injury incurred. My doctoral thesis explored 'Moral distress in end-of-life decisions in ICU.' I am particularly interested in the experience and impact of moral distress in patients, families, healthcare professionals, students, academics, and organisations, and indeed in people in their every day lives in complex health situations across the life course from conception to end-of-life and palliative care and death.
In recent years I have developed an appreciation for ethics in relation to to social justice, health inequalities and health and scocial care services in relation to women's health and gender-based violence including female genital mutilation (FGM).
